Abstract

The specification of complex systems, such as software, requires well-defined languages and methods. In the case of real-time systems, where temporal correctness must be achieved in addition to functional, descriptions of time dependant behaviour must be expressable within the specification language.This report presents a selection of languages and methods that are used to specify real-time systems, ranging from fully formal temporal logics and process algebras, to the less formal but widely used UML.
