This PhD project target automated construction of roads. More specifically we look at the set of autonomous vehicles that are used for asphalting in the context of road construction. Challenges are inherent in management of sensor data, e.g., computer vision and perception of the vehicle position, speed and its surrounding, as well as real-time management of sensor data describing structure, density and temperature of asphalt such that an optimal compacting of the asphalt can be performed. This project is carried out in collaboration among Skanska and MDH.
