Ali Fard (not working at IDT anymore)

Ali Fard was born in Tehran, Iran in 1978. He received the M.Sc EE degree from Mälardalen University, in 2002. The same year, he joined the Dep. of Electronics as a Ph.D student in the circuit design area. His research interests include analog radio frequency integrated circuits, analog/digital high-speed IC design, frequency generation circuits, noise modelling and control systems. He joined the Technical University of Denmark (Oersted-DTU) during August 2004 - January 2005 as a guest researcher, working on modelling of noise in RF circuits. He is currently a Ph.D candidate working on design and analysis of low phase noise wide-band RF oscillators. He is expected to defend his thesis in January 2006.
The main research area is on analog radio frequency (RF) integrated circuits, used in wireless communication systems. Several main sub-circuits in such systems are studied, where currently the attention is dedicated to design and analysis of the Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) for multi-band/standard radio applications. Aspects regarding phase noise, tuning range, power dissipation and amplitude issues are studied. Currently there is an ongoing close collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark (Oersted-DTU) on modelling of phase noise in several VCO structures, using bipolar and CMOS technologies.
