Ines Alvarez, Post Doc

Inés Álvarez received the degree in Informatics Engineering with a specialization in Computer Engineering from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Palma, Spain, in 2014, a master in Informatics Engineering from the same University in 2016 and the Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technologies in 2021. She is currently a Postdoc at the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering at Mälardalen University, Sweden, since February 2022.

Dr. Álvarez works in the research areas of Highly Dependable and Distributed Embedded Systems and Real-Time communications. She has actively collaborated in the Systems, Robotics and Vision research group since 2014. She has co-authored 5 journal papers (4 of them as first author) and 13 papers published in international scientific conferences with peer-review (8 of them as first author). One of the publications received the best paper award on Factory Automation at the 27th IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA 2022) and another one received the best work-in-progress paper award at the 12th IEEE World Conference on Factory Communication Systems (WFCS 2016). As a student, she has collaborated in the implementation and design of several fault tolerance mechanisms developed within the national research project FT4FTT and she has participated in the national research project DFT4FTT as a member of the working team. She worked as a lecturer in the University of the Balearic Islands from September 2017 until September 2022. She carried out a six-month research visit in the Telecommunications Institute and the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2016; a ten-month research visit in the University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 2017; and a visit of one month in the research department of the prestigious company TTTech Computertechnik AG in Vienna, Austria, in 2018.

She has participated in the organization of the 11th IEEE World Conference on Factory Communication Systems (WFCS 2015) as a member of the local organizing committee; the 19th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN’21) as member of the local organizing committee, Finance co-chair and Publication co-chair; and the 2nd International Workshop on Real-Time and IntelliGent Edge Computing (RAGE 2023) as General co-chair. She is Technical Track co-chair of the IEEE 29th International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation. She participated in 6 international conferences as member of the review committee. She is a member of the IEEE since 2016.

My work focuses on the research areas of Highly Dependable and Distributed Embedded Systems and Real-Time communications. I am interested in the design of reliable and resilient systems, capable of adapting to carry their operation correctly in adverse conditions.

During my PhD I have worked with a wide range of technologies for the development of solutions for cyberphysical systems and their networks, as well as for the formal modeling of the designed solutions.
